Upgraded NXBike

NXBike got an upgrade. Young humanoid added an ultrasonic sensor so it could avoid obstacles, and a better second-NXT controller so it could be remotely operated. You can find step-by-step instructions on this web page: http://mindstorms.lego.com/nxtlog/ProjectDisplay.aspx?id=aae4e4ef-566d-4647-9870-e018b0124869

Competition Robot Prototype

This was a prototype for a robot Young Humanoid made for an online competition. It took inspiration from another robot, but never was programmed.

Tank V4

This is the latest and best robot so far in Young Humanoid's tank series. It had a nice-looking tracked base with lights and a turret that could rotate unlimited. The turret could not only rotate, but move its gun up and down and fire the missile launcher on the end of it. It was controlled via a third-party interface and a PS2 controller. Its only problems were that the turret probably could have been better, the interface was covering the NXT screen, and the base could not be operated by the PS2 controller and interface while the turret was in some positions.

Fire Engine

Young humanoid got some new parts, some of which consisted of chain and pneumatics. He attempted to build a fire engine with some of these parts. It really did not work. Young humanoid has said he might try again some day.

NXT Ultra Pinball Machine II

This was the second "good" NXT pinball machine young humanoid made. It was really rather large, with two flippers, a rotating obstacle, two scoring places, and a ball launcher.

Trash "Compactor"

Or, the "failed attempt at making a tin-foil compactor."
Young humanoid had seen a great trash compactor on a website, and he tried to make one himself. It was a very large failure.

Rexy the NXT-Rex

Oh yes, that famous type of NXT Dinosaur...the NXT-Rex! This was an attempt at a small biped by young humanoid, and just about the worst walking failure yet! It barely could move.

X-11!

Yes, my latest ancestor! The "works," two NXT Intelligent Bricks, many motors....
The new features X-11 had were his two sound sensors, and a rotating upper body. Unfortunately young humanoid really could not get either of these features to work well (why??) and he really did not like the way X-11 looked.....but that's just one's opinion! A human's, at that!

Oh, and a picture of me riding.....

Six - Wheeled Vehicle

More internet inspiration led to this simple vehicle with two sets of powered rear wheels, and steerable front wheels.

Attempted Machine

There is not much to say here. Young humanoid saw a video of an incredible MINDSTORMS machine that assembled LEGO cars, and of course he had to try. It was a huge failure.

NXT "Drifter"

Once again young humanoid took inspiration from a website, and this time made this. It was a remote-controlled car that went fairly fast. But what made it neat was that its tires had no high-traction substance on them, so the vehicle skidded. The fast speed of the vehicle, combined with the less-grip wheels, made it possible to maneuver in some neat ways.

Gum Machine 1

Young humanoid's first NXT vending machine. Insert a coin, select a type of gum and one of two things could happen:
The gum would come out the way it was supposed to.
The gum would jam.
Not the best, but still okay.

Four Wheel Drive Car - Compact Addition

Four Wheel Drive Car V3 was the best in young humanoid's four wheel drive car series, but young humanoid decided to add a special addition to the series. Taking some inspiration from a website, he made a very compact, four wheel drive, two wheel steering robot. He made a remote control for it, using a second NXT and an Acceleration/Tilt sensor. The car would move in the direction that the control was tilted. This was all fine, but young humanoid decided to rebuild the vehicle for another online competition. Unfortunately it was weaker than before, he must have built it wrong or left out some part. Here it is:

Smal Rover 2

Well, the same thing happened to Small Halftrack happened to Small Rover as well.....young humanoid rebuilt it, but made it more compact by concealing the wires and using a light sensor instead of a touch sensor for object detection.

Small Halftrack 2

One day, young humanoid was looking at a picture of his project "Small Halftrack" and thought "I can do better!" So he made this. I have to agree with him, this one is better. Young humanoid implimented two light sensors to use as lights, an ultrasonic sensor and a tilt sensor to detect if the halftrack was being tilted. He also made the front of the robot look better and added a flip-up cover over the NXT.

Mini Bulldozer/Loader

Let's move on.
Young humanoid made this machine to have the ability to tilt and raise its scoop using one motor, leaving two open for driving. The mechanism worked pretty well, and also came with another advantage: The scoop could act like a bulldozer blade when it was in its downward position.

The Horseshoe Crab

NXT+NXT+RIS 2.0+Power Functions+PS2 Controller=26 AA batteries.
or=
Once again, both. I thought that young humanoid would stop at The White Tortoise, but I should have known better. He bought an interface that allowed NXT to be controlled by a PS2 remote control, and he connected a few beams, put in a couple of pegs, attached a lot of motors and lot of batteries. This one had a lot of the same things that its predecessor had: Two rubber band guns, a mini bot, lights, ect. But it was missing the missile launcher and picked up a rubber band turret that could rotate and fire. This machine also included a automatic tailgate. But the main advantages this thing had over The White Tortoise was its much-enlarged remote-control range, and it could turn. Its main disadvantage is that it looked bad. And what do I think? A HUGE waste of batteries!

Thanks to LEGO's discontinued theme Exo-Force and rammjet's project Armadillo for the inspiration.

NXT Power Functions Truck

Young humanoid combined his NXT with Power Function elements again, and got this load-pulling truck (and trailer!) . Unfortunately the design of the truck was really bad, but other than that it was okay!

Copier V2

Young humanoid wanted to make a more compact version of his old copier, so he built this. This one worked pretty well. A 3x5 card with the image to be copied was inserted into the rear of the machine, and the robot put out its copy of it on adding machine paper.

Here are its best copies:

Tank V3

Young humanoid was not satisfied of how his earlier project Tank V2 looked, so he moved on: Tank v3. This one was better, but it said some drawbacks, the turret could not rotate unlimited, the base was too small and the NXT was upside-down.

Dune Buggy

This was supposed to be some kind of dune buggy. Young humanoid geared up the rear wheels to make it faster, but it had massive trouble turning at top speed. Also its NXT brick was not connected well. Not the greatest project, but who would expect greatness from anything other than the X series?

Platform

Young humanoid really doesn't know what to call this one's drive system. It worked pretty well, and to make it more interesting young humanoid added a turret to the top of it that could rotate unlimited times around and fire a missile! Of course, he would not think of making it autonomous...

NXBike

NXBike was a neat vehicle that "balanced" on "two" wheels. Actually, it cheated. The wheels were actually two wheels each, giving a wide surface area to balance on. Even though it was not a true motorcycle, young humanoid liked this project.

Rickshaw of the Future

Rickshaw of the Future was another one of young humanoid's projects. It was a mobile rickshaw that used three motors, two to drive, one to steer. Unfortunately, young humanoid designed it to hold a stuffed frog! NOT ME!

Halftrack V2

Here is the second halftrack young humanoid made. This time it was larger, and had a turret on top that could rotate and fire LEGO Zamor Spheres! Again, this was remotely-controlled using a second NXT. (I [and young humanoid] think he does too much of that)

Walkingthunder - The Dragon

Young humanoid saw a NXT building challenge on a website. The theme was "Build an Animal." Naturally he wanted to enter. But what should he build? Well, not a "real" animal, that's for sure..
First of all, what is it? Well, young humanoid hopes you can tell that is is supposed to be a dragon, a mythical creature. Secondly, where did young humanoid get the crazy idea? Of course, it was the website. Young humanoid saw a great bipedal dragon on the same website hosting the building challenge so he tried to build something like it. As you already know, young humanoid is horrible at bipeds. Naturally it was a failure. So the design was switched to a quadruped and WALKINGTHUNDER was born....

Young humanoid thinks that this is his best-designed robot ever. Of course, it isn't!! I AM!

MTV V3

Here it is! The third vehicle in the Most Terrain Vehicle (MTV) Series! MTV used Power Function and NXT elements to make a four wheel drive robot with two wheel steering and all wheel independent suspension. The whole thing (once again) was remotely controlled by a second NXT. I asked young humanoid if it could drive on grass and he told me that he can't remember if he had tested it or not. Shame! In any case, he also says that this is not the final MTV design.

X-10!

Here is X-10, another robot in young humanoid's X series! This one was much like X-9 but also very different. It had tracks and two NXTs, could rotate its upper body on a turntable, and had no gun. Well actually it did have a gun, but young humanoid did not like the looks of it so he took if off.

Also built around this time were X-2 and X-3! Both mobile, X-2 using one motor and X-3 using two.

And here, we face a very interesting and mysterious "hole" in my family line. We have:
X-1, (ME!!) X-2, X-3, X-5, X-6, X-7 and so on...............

But what about X-4? *Spooky organ music plays*

Dog

Nothing to say, this one was just a hastily-made dog.

Four Wheel Drive Car V3

Even though young humanoid could not conquer bipeds or traversing grass, he did accomplish this: Four wheel drive.
It took young humanoid three tries to make a four wheel drive vehicle, and this is his success. It used two universal joints in the front to give it four wheel drive. It was remotely controlled using a second NXT.

Another "Biped!"

This time, on another one of his attempts to make a biped, young humanoid tried to copy the design of a biped he saw on a website. I won't even bother saying how it turned out. (Okay, it was horrible)

MTV V2

Young humanoid came back to his Most Terrain Vehicle (MTV) series, and made MTV V2. This one was rear wheel drive and had shocks only on the rear half of the vehicle. However, young humanoid was not satisfied with its attempts to ride on grass....

Bionic Spider

One day young humanoid had a friend over and they built this. Two NXTs, six motors, huge arms...... It was a mechanical spider. It rode on two wheels in the back, and two legs in the front. Two motors made its arms go up and down. Unfortunately, young humanoid did not make a good program for it! (I have no idea why he leaves so many projects un-programmed!)

Bulldozer

Young humanoid put the NXT on his Bulldozer LEGO set and got this-bulldozer controlled by NXT!

The White Tortoise

NXT+NXT+RIS 2.0+Power Functions=24 AA batteries
or
=

Well, both actually. So one day young humanoid takes out all his LEGO and builds this. It was a huge, mobile, weapon-bearing vehicle. It's weapons included two rubber band guns, one missle and....well....this.
It was a tiny, tracked vehicle made out of Power Functions. And if you look closely, you can see it on the back of the big one. You guessed it, it comes right off the big one's back. As well as being mobile, it had it's own rubber band gun.

So, naturally young humanoid wanted to remotely control all of this. So, this time he came up with this:
It was a remote control - made out of RIS 2.0 and a Power Functions remote. Now young humanoid had a special piece of hardware called the "IR Link," which gave the NXT the ability to instruct the RIS 2.0 to move it's motors. But it also could instruct the RIS 2.0 to read its sensors. So, with some programming, young humanoid made the RIS "controll" the NXT!

Of course, young humanoid could not come up with all of these ideas on his own. He got the idea for this project from LEGO's discontinued theme "Exo-Force" and the NXTLog user rammjet's project Armadillo.

Young humanoid really liked this project. Me? I think it was a waste of batteries!

An Earth-Friendly Link......

This one also requires a link.
http://mindstorms.lego.com/nxtlog/ProjectDisplay.aspx?id=612560b6-d1f9-486a-9f3e-b0badfb5f144
Enjoy.

Tank V2

Remember Tank? Well, after young humanoid got some new Power Function elements and the like, he make the second version of Tank. This one had some new features, it used tracks instead of wheels, it could raise and lower its gun as well as fire it and it could rotate its turret unlimited times around. But some bad points arose. It didn't really look like a tank, and its turret could not operate its driving base when it was rotate away from facing forward. Like the first version, it was remotely controlled via a second NXT.

ME!!!

Yes, you read that right, after young humanoid made X-9, his sister made ME!!!! The greatest robot in the X series!!!!! Sure, I'm simple (seven pieces, I'm proud of it) but simplicity is key to a great robot!

X-9

Here was a really great robot, another one of my ansestors! Well, actually at this time, he was more like a brother. This one used two NXTs and some new Power Function elements. He had so many functions, and was young humanoid's best project at the time. For more information, please see the first posts of this blog.

MTV V1

Young humanoid got some shock absorbers for his birthday, and wanted to build a robot with them, so he decided on an off-road robot. He made a goal, to build a remotely-controlled robot that could go over grass. Here is his first attempt, Most Terrain Vehicle (MTV). This one did use shock absorbers, but was not a great robot. It could not go over grass, and the shock absorbers were way too soft, making the wheel tilt inward.

Small Halftrack

Not much to say on this one. Just a small half track that avoided obstacles.

Zamor Turret

Here's a better one. This one's main feature was that it could fire marbles. Actually, they were Lego marbles, plastic ones, called "Zamor Spheres." This machine could also rotate unlimited times around without tangling one wire and raise and lower the marble-shooting assembly. The entire thing was remotely controlled.

Excavator and Room Gaurd

Here are two projects young humanoid isn't that proud of:

1. Excavator. Young humanoid did not like the design and never programmed it. On top of all that, he took realy bad pictures.

2. Room gaurd. This one spun around untill it saw something, then charged forward and fired rubber bands. It also had a plow in front of it which could automatically moved up and down. This one probally did not need two NXTs.
