Here's young humanoid's best version of a vehicle with car-like steering. It used three motors, one to rotate the rear axle (young humanoid used no differential!) and one to turn the front wheels. Three sensors were used. One neat thing about this model was that the ultrasonic and sound sensors rotated with the steering. Young humanoid got this idea from a model on a NXT website.
